Sculptra

Sculptra is an injectable filler that adds volume and improves wrinkles and sagging skin. It is made of poly-L-lactic acid, a type of biodegradable, biocompatible synthetic polymer, which stimulates the body to create more collagen. Results are gradual and very natural-looking over the course of months.

Sculptra can be used in the outer parameters of the face, such as the cheeks, lower face, jaw and temples. This replaces lost volume and tightens the skin back. It is also commonly used in the hip dips, dimpling and non-surgical butt lifts.

FAQs

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on your goals and extent of volume loss. For the face, 1 vial (10ml) is recommended per decade of your age due to collagen depletion. A minimum of 3 sessions 6-8 weeks apart is recommended, with a follow-up in 6 months-1 year. For the hips, 1-2 vials per session may be used, butt lifts require 4-6 vials per session on average, depending on goals.

When will I see the results?

The volume immediately after the procedure is a result of the liquid product and after a few days, the area will appear smaller again. Over the course of 6-8 weeks as collagen builds, the area will have more volume and firmness. Best results are observed after 2-3 treatments and last approximately 2 years or more.

Is it safe?

Sculptra is generally considered safe if administered by a qualified healthcare professional. Poly-L-Lactic acid has been used for many years in dissolvable sutures and medical implants. The FDA first approved Sculptra in 2004 for facial volume restoration in patients with HIV. The most common side effects of Sculptra include swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness. Lumps and nodules are rare but can be avoided with vigorous massage post-care and proper dilution and administration of the product.
